As part of measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Jumia group has introduced a ‘contactless’ delivery option for their prepaid packages.
The Jumia said the measure became necessary to keep both customers and agents safe during this period.
The ‘contactless’ delivery option which has been effected on the JumiaPay payment platform enables customers to make prepaid payments for products online and get them delivered without body contact or cash exchange with the delivery agent.
According to SVP Logistics at Jumia, Apoorva Kumar, ‘The health and safety of our customers and delivery agents is our absolute priority. We are uniquely positioned to step up and be part of Africa’s response strategy in this challenging time. We have implemented a ‘contactless’ delivery option, which eliminates any possibility of physical contact. Convenience, social distancing and cashless measures are woven into one solution to combat the current situation.’
The company also said the delivery agents have been trained on the standards to follow during delivery.
They are to either call or text when they arrive, drop the package are the customer’s doorstep and wait at a safe distance for the collection before leaving.
Customers are strongly encouraged to pay ‘cashless’ on Jumia through JumiaPay. As this will ensure less cash coming in contact with riders as well as the Nigerian population, thus, reducing the transmission of the Coronavirus.
The Jumia ‘contactless’ delivery is available on all JumiaPay/Prepaid Packages and other cashless delivery modes such as mobile money.
